How to Select Your Wedding Flowers

All images in this post are from a real wedding we assisted with, for a wonderful couple, planned and coordinated by One Fine Day Special Events, and photographed by Kay Kern Photography.

Congratulations, you’re engaged! Or if you’re not (yet), you’re at least starting to think about your wedding, and importantly, your wedding flowers. We LOVE working with clients to help them bring their wedding vision to life, and understand how overwhelming it can be to get from Pinterest board dreams to real day beauty.

After years of working with clients for their wedding florals (our shop owner and lead designer both had wedding floral design experience when we opened Bouquet of Granger in April of 2025), our best advice is to go with your gut for what you like and we’ll help you with the rest.

But since we love a good numbered list here at Bouquet of Granger, we’ll take you through the 5 steps for selecting your wedding flowers.

  1. Pick your venue and book your date

Okay, so this doesn’t DIRECTLY relate to picking your wedding flowers, but in truth your venue and time of year can greatly impact the entire aesthetic of your wedding. Dreaming of a spring wedding with pastel garden-inspired florals at every turn? Or a winter event in a ballroom with classic yet modern white roses and hydrangeas? Or a tent wedding in autumn with warm, muted tones reflecting the seasons?

The fact is, your wedding florals will set the tone of your event, and should coordinate naturally with your venue and the season in which you choose to wed. While there are no hard and fast rules about this, we think the most beautiful weddings have flowers and accessories in tune with the space surrounding them, for an overall aesthetic that is cohesive and settling.

  2. Chat about budget

This is one of the HARDEST parts about planning a wedding, and honestly, we get it. Our staff has been on the other end of this, and know it is so hard to put a price range on your wedding, especially when you have never planned one before. And while your budget doesn’t have to be set in stone, a rough idea or guideline is helpful. The last thing we want is to be talking about arches and installations when you’re really wanting to stay under a couple thousand dollars for your florals. All of that said, by giving you exact pricing on all items, we hope to help you choose how to allocate that budget for the maximum impact you hope to achieve. We have no minimum budget to book with Bouquet of Granger for wedding flowers.

Having a budget in your mind is so helpful when we start to talk about pricing for your flowers. We try to also give you a rough idea of pricing by including our most popular wedding floral items right on our website for you to see prior to reaching out.

  3. Choose a color palette and get that Pinterest board rolling

Honestly, we love a good Pinterest board. Take your time and Pin images of wedding florals you find that you love. As you get deeper into the board, you may find yourself liking things you hadn’t expected, and that is a-okay. It’s likely you will gravitate toward a certain style and color palette; that’s what we want to know! We don’t care about having too many specific details, but an overall vision or aesthetic you like is SO helpful.

  4. Fill out our Bouquet Wedding Flower Questionnaire

We created a simple form to have clients fill out to help us understand the basics of your event before we ever have a conversation. It helps us prepare and understand your vision, and honestly often gets us excited about your vision. If you have favorite flowers you KNOW you like, definitely include them here! The questionnaire takes about five minutes to complete, and gives us a good idea of the scope of your wedding, as well as your date and venue location.

  5. Chat with a Bouquet of Granger designer

We’re including this as the last step, because honestly we think after this step, you’ll have everything chosen. After we have seen your Pinterest board and received your Questionnaire, we have a great idea of what you’re looking for (even if you don’t actually know fully yourself). We’ll send you a quote for your wedding florals, with a mood-board including inspiration images for your pieces. Then, we’ll offer to meet for a chat about the details of your event. We can chat about options within your budget, and confirm that we’re all on the same page about the plan for your wedding flowers. You can ask us ANY questions you have at this time, and we’ll answer to the best of our knowledge!

This chat can take place over the phone, over Zoom, or in-person in our shop. You are welcome to bring your fiancΓ©, your mother, or anyone else you would like involved in the planning process. It’s a great time to put a face with a name for both parties and get to know each other just a bit.
